Business set to save £5,000

MANY organisations do not realise the substantial savings they could make on their heating bills by ensuring they only use central heating at their premises when they need to.

One business that has benefited from analysing its use of central heating is clothing embroidery and printing specialists Touchline Embroidery, based in Warrington , who recently engaged the services of Groundwork Cheshire’s Environmental Business Service to conduct a resource efficiency audit of their premises – with outstanding results.

As a result of Groundwork’s audit the company could save over £5,000 and 28 tonnes of carbondioxide emissions per annum, simply by altering the timer on their central heating system.

Jane Staley, Executive Director of Groundwork Cheshire, said: “The large savings we were able to identify for Touchline Embroidery are a great example of the benefits our free of charge Resource Efficiency audits can provide for businesses.”

Revision of WEEE regulations

A GOVERNMENT consultation is currently underway into proposed changes to the European Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive which first came into force in January 2007.

The WEEE directive, which affects all Cheshire businesses, requires Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment arising within the  UK to be disposed of in accordance with the regulations.

Nursery benefits from green audit

GROUNDWORK Cheshire ’s environmental business service has been working with Lodge Lane Nursery to help them find an eco-friendly solution to the amount of garden waste it was producing.

The nursery was keen to find a greener alternative to burning its garden waste and following a Groundwork resource efficiency audit one recommendation made was to invest in a chipper to turn the waste into mulch so it could be reused.
